Developmental Key Concepts, A Parent's Guide

The Blue Mountain Soccer Club Developmental program  is designed to develop the skills of young players, assist the volunteer coaches in learning te game and to provide a forum for fun. This program can not be successful without volunteers to coach the teams. Team sizes are kept small in order to increase player time, allow for as many "touches" on the ball as possible, and assist coaches in supervising very vibrant, inquisitive players. The concepts are easy and NO SOCCER EXPERIENCE is needed to be a volunteer coach.

Key Program Concepts:
1. Specific soccer skill goals set for each age level.
2. Practices for introducing/developing soccer skills.
3. Structured games for application of skills and learning of rules.
4. All players play as close to 50% minimum in each game.
5. All players rotate through all positions on field to cntinue the learning process.
6. All games are non-competitive and scores are not kept.

Basic Rules for all ages:
1. Each half will be started by a kickoff. The ball must be played forward of the midline.
2. Pushing, tripping, or any other "rough" manuvers to gain posession of the ball will not be allowed.
3. Players will utilize a "throw-in" to restart play on a ball out of bounds on the sideline.
4. Balls traveling over the endline will be restarted utilizing either a goal kick or corner kick as
    appropriate.
5. On all restarts, players will be required to be approximately 5 yards away from the ball for
    safety.
6. Goalies, when utilized, are the only players on the field who may use their hands. The goalie may
restart play by using either a throw or punt.
7. DO NOT KEEP SCORE.
8. It is required that all who particpate, watch, coach, are in the immediate area,  visibly have fun
both before, during and after all soccer activities.
